Papers related to a biography of Henry Knox, 1771-1865.

Materials written and collected by Joseph Willard for an unpublished biography of Henry Knox, including drafts, notes, and outlines. Also included are manuscript fragments, mostly cover sheets of letters, 19th century transcripts of Knox letters, a scrapbook (1854-64) containing correspondence and transcriptions for the biography, and an index to the Henry Knox papers. A series of letters (1825-57) to Charles S. Daveis about Knox from his family and colleagues of Knox are also included. Daveis was a member of the Mass. Society of the Cincinnati and, like Willard, was working on a biography of Knox and the artillery of the Continental Army which was never completed. Daveis' correspondents include Henry Burbeck.
